'LO' for Online Teaching & Learning

The search of topic for the ‘Project’ in Assignment 2, is based on LO (Learning Object) approach, where  contents’ are aimed as smaller components of learning that support possible use again, that can stand alone and one can be made handy to meet the “just enough” and “just-in-time” requests of learners.

A non-linear approach will be preferred as it allows users to learn by exploring information presented in a variety of media about a single topic. They may involve considerable content in themselves (high granularity - The level of detail considered in a model or decision
making process. The greater the granularity, the deeper the level of detail.
) and appear to be conceived and designed for stand-alone use rather than as part of a specific course or in combination with other LO.

Re-usability will be a vital concern for the time investment involved in crafting LOs, and so the prerequisite to make the most of the potential for re-use in learning and teaching frameworks is far and wide acknowledged.
They also reflect a lower level of granularity, providing for ‘Bite-Sized’ chunks of learning, and can have a role alongside other LOs and other course components in teaching and learning contexts, either blended or wholly online.

Ample of the existing commercial software supports the ‘technical creation’ of web pages for interactive learning purposes but emphases on design at the level of the entire course instead of simultaneous emphasis at the level of the smaller, more reusable piece of online learning.

Even the commercially available tools do not support or involve a particular pedagogic approach or design template for the production of output with potential for reuse. Though, re-usability needs to be considered in the context of LO pedagogy too. ‘Granularity’ or ‘size’ is also a critical factor which impacts on the reusability of Los.

In short the Learning Object proposed to develop would
  •  be independent or ‘hook-on’ from their framework of use
  • being originally established as ‘building blocks’ and intended to enables re-use in an additional course or resource set
  •  being autonomous and detachable from specific context of use
  •  being assembled using micro modules which are also uniform and distinguishable
  •  being constantly sized and designed.
  •  are activity-centered
  • aim to engross the student energetically in replication
  •  activities ensures for practice and production
  • activities will be personalised (learner-centered) where possible
  •  Would be enhanced with important feedback to support and drive students ‘learning’
  • the design will accommodates different learning approaches
The aim of developing Learning Object will be;
  •  Learning to study
  • Writing for teaching purpose
  • Learning how to read and or how to critically think
  • Increasing wealth of word – vocabulary of teaching purpose
  •  Establishing fundamentals of Grammar for teaching purpose
  •  Enhancing listening and note taking skill for teaching purpose
  • Teaching need to enhance communication skill
  •  Object oriented skill development from HR department of an organisation
  • Within the best standard and practice of industry standard for the subject
The flexibility of module where
  • A student can use it in class
  • As a pre define resource for tutor to use for individual or group of student
  • Be a in class or pre class course part
  • Usability by student outside the class with or without or combination of interaction by teacher.
  •  Adaptable to online environment only or mix.
  • A sound and very easy method of data capturing for evolution purpose
  • Flexible re-production of assessment – module based or course base or semester base or course based or a mix.
